Helen Offers Pilates Workouts in Waterville Valley
What is a Pilates reformer?
For a private reformer session I start off with a short yoga flow to warm up the body before the Pilates Reformer session. The client always can’t wait to get on the reformer when we are done with warmup. It has a relaxing effect as they go beyond their capacity than they normally go in their workouts. The results are amazing. Hip pain and lower back pain are reduced after a few sessions. I have witnessed that their core is toned and can see improvements in posture after a month. When people first see the reformer, they say it looks like a torture chamber. Don’t be fooled. It’s not as bad as it looks. The exercises can be done lying down, sitting, standing, pulling the straps, pushing the footbar, perched on the footbar, perched on the shoulder blocks, with additional equipment, upside down, sideways, and all kinds of variations. When the springs are in a lighter setting, some exercises are more challenging for the core because it has to work harder to control and stabilize the movement. The stronger the core, the better the balance, posture, and overall well-being. The reformer is a great way to build strong bones and lengthen muscles as it resist a force.
